A Heap of Anime Updates Landed During the Festive Season

The Yuletide season offer a plethora of pastimes far superior than scanning the latest news: unwrapping gifts, indulging in festive fare, and using deep breathing to not snapping at relatives. I hope you managed to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Numerous noteworthy news items surfaced during the holidays, and should you overlooked a few, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)

Perhaps the biggest revelation, the much-discussed disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt more episodes. Season 3 will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they easily could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which could be taken as a positive development. Yet, the main art for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, at this point, they must be trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series proved it maintained the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now the community is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been airing for a while, and season 6 was a further excellent entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will probably air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

Another studio known for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two

Shortly after the airing of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not been disclosed yet.
