Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
