Nigel Farage Claims Teachers of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts within weeks a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by instructing children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his viewpoint on the UK education system, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after winning the next general election,” he remarked in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They promote this negative culture.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union dismissed the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. He pointed out that any strikes must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his public life on coded rhetoric and currently, similar to other figures, he is targeting educators and their unions for a fight,” Kebede stated.
“This is highly reckless. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
The party, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, his comments indicated the party would overhaul the system and the curriculum. He said: “We face an enormous task with education – truly monumental. And, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
He stated that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Honoring Charlie Kirk, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves as opposed to current practices where views are labeled good or bad. This is a huge undertaking in the UK and US.”
The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted at school, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.
National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for students.
At the US event, Farage also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He stated such groups were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I am serious. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of youth to these educational programs. I make that commitment now and I will follow through.”
The institution, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. According to its online description: “Comprehensive learning is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these excellent programs for free to every interested learner.”
