Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Leading Derogatory Songs About Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side only seven months after leading disrespectful songs directed at the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has signed a contract joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. His lengthy time at Elland Road was ended amicably in August.
One of the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting offensive chants about Wilder during Leeds' success festivities in April. Now, the former England international will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to pull the team he loves out of the drop zone.
Past History Involving Bamford & Wilder
The pair had previous conflict before Leeds won promotion to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as a "muppet" when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured direct promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Looking Ahead
All seems has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his playing days.
The song about Wilder went viral this spring. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.
Chris Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow pro! However I valued and admired him calling me.
“We had 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that is an integral part of the game across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Latest Career Challenges
The forward made 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
