President Trump Welcomes Relatives of Injured National Guard Soldiers to the White House
Former President Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Memorials across the state have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president addressed journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Response
Mourners gathered over the past few days at a local school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the press. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to support those in need.”
Memorial details for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The incident caused the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and halt providing entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed the program that she planned to meet with the family.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a military police officer with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had bravery,” the governor addressed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
