Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be raised about his position following another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell such as this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
