The England midfielder Has to Cut Out the Petulance to Reclaim a Central Position Under Manager Thomas Tuchel.

Should Bellingham hopes to earn his place into the English top starting eleven, it would be smart to cut out the nonsense. The way he reacted after noticing that his number was about to come up following a night of inconsistency in the match against Albania was unacceptable.

"I don’t want to blow it out of proportion but I hold to my words 'conduct is crucial' and respect for the teammates who substitute on," commented the coach. "Decisions are made and you must accept them being a professional."

Bellingham has to learn. There was no call for an outburst. Harry Kane had only moments earlier made it the national team two goals ahead in a dead rubber qualifier, the game had six minutes to go and the player, following an inconsistent display, was just shown a yellow for a foul on Armando Broja. This was hardly a debatable decision. Actually it would have been unwise for the manager to leave Bellingham on given that there was a risk he would make himself ineligible of the first match of the tournament by getting a second yellow card.

Turning the Spotlight to Himself

However, the player turned the spotlight on himself. No one could overlook the 22-year-old’s frustration upon understanding that he was going to make way for Morgan Rogers. He threw his arms up and although he accepted the coach's hand after making his way to the touchline it was obvious that the manager was displeased.

Here lies the test that Bellingham must overcome. He congratulated his teammate for providing the assist for Kane to nod home his second goal, but his other actions was self-defeating. It is not as if complaining was going to alter the decision. Tuchel has repeatedly emphasized following squad protocols and the importance of showing proper conduct.

In the Spotlight

Bellingham, omitted from the previous squad, has been under scrutiny since coming back to the fold in the current camp. Essentially he was being assessed and his actions haven't benefited him through his behavior to coming off the pitch as England rounded off a flawless qualification run by overcoming a feisty challenge from Albania.

The Coach's Plan

This implies it's unclear on whether the squad operate most effectively including Bellingham. The performance was not definitive. Tuchel tried new things from Tuchel in the beginning. He has provided the squad organization and direction in recent months, building with a defensive midfielder, a No 8, an attacking midfielder and specialist wingers, but it felt different in this match. The young defender was made his England debut, Adam Wharton made his first start internationally and the role of the defender as an auxiliary midfielder created a passing resemblance to the Manchester club's 2023 treble winners.

A Game of Two Halves

Bellingham was a mixed bag. He made a chance for his teammate after the break but often looked trying too hard. He made many hurried and errant passes. An unnecessary confrontation with an Albania midfielder in the early stages. England's play was messy for much of the second half. A scoring chance for the opponents resulted from Bellingham squandered possession. His caution occurred when he lost the ball from Broja and brought down Broja.

Substitutes Decide

Finally the squad's strength made the difference. The coach brought on Foden, who appeared better suited to the spot that Bellingham had played earlier in the match, and the Arsenal winger. Later Saka whipped in a corner for Harry Kane to open the scoring. This served as a reminder that dead-ball situations will be crucial in the upcoming tournament.

Connection Remains

However, all talk was about Bellingham. The brilliance of the winger's delivery for Kane's goal was somewhat overlooked in the ridiculousness of the player change. After the final whistle, the focus was on the midfielder. The coach approached to his side and directed the Real Madrid midfielder towards the travelling England fans. Their relationship is not damaged. The coach isn't ready to give up on Bellingham yet. But if Tuchel is inclined to grant him a starring role is still uncertain.
