The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure by Critical Role, unveiled a new opening credits. It features the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several agonizing backstories for key figures such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.

All in all, the intro looks amazing. However, I felt that something was lost in the song choice.

This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of the same name, the second release released by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I suspect that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, the creators has already said that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and the video site.
