The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the network unveiled a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this lovable family navigate their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running layer of irony. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
