This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life without fear.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
